Dar
es Salaam. With less than a week left before the 2012 Olympic Games
begins, Tanzania is set to send another athlete to London.
Amaar Ghadiyali, one of the best up-and-coming swimmers in the country, will join his teammates in London on Monday thanks to the Cosmos Group support. Ghadiyali’s addition will take the number of Tanzanian representatives in the quadrennial event to seven. Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general Noel Kihunsi urged the 15-year-old to strive for a medal and thanked the sponsors for their support. “We had pinned our hopes in one swimmer (Magdalena Moshi), but Ghadiyali is a good addition and we expect a medal from at least one of them,” Kihunsi said. Ghadiyali will be among the youngest athletes at the London Games. Cosmos Group chairman Muhammad Pardesi said he was proud of his company’s working relations with TSA’s Olympic mission and hoped the youngster will shine in London. “I am proud that my company has facilitated Ghadiyali’s participation at the London Olympics; it’s a great thing for us. We hope that he will win respect for Tanzania,” he said. The six-member Olympic team left for England almost a fortnight ago for acclimatisation. |
